Welcome to Johnson County Fire District 3 online! JCFD3 is a combination career/volunteer department that provides fire suppression, rescue, and basic life support services for northwestern Johnson County, Kansas. Areas served include approximately 65 square miles of Lexington Township, the former Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant, and portions of Olathe Township and the City of De Soto.
Our career personnel are Firefighter I and EMT-B certified. The majority of the career personnel carry certifications beyond these minimum requirements. Our volunteer personnel attend intra-department training at least once a month. They are also provided opportunities to obtain their Firefighter I, II, and other fire training through the University of Kansas Fire and Rescue Training Institute and other local/regional schools. Many of our volunteers are also EMT-B or First Responder certified.
JCFD3 employs ten full-time personnel, including an Operations Chief. The full-time personnel are assigned to station 1 at 9745 Kill Creek Rd. One firefighter is currently assigned to station 2 during daytime hours on most days. Part-time personnel began working in 2008 to increase staffing levels at station 2. Volunteer, part-time, and out-of-district personnel account for an additional 20+ active members.
